I started interning and assisting Seattle photographer Nate Gowdy in September of 2019. In October 2019 I found myself in Washington DC where I not only acted as an assistant but also the behind the scenes photographer.
Along with Nate and Vishavjit Singh, the Sikh Captain America, I wandered the halls of congressional buildings where the project was pitched to several members of congress. At the end of the week, we had stormed the offices of 5 different congresswomen, setting up, shooting, interviewing, and tearing down, each time, in roughly 30 minutes. In between the pitching and the shooting, we often found ourselves waiting in the halls, receiving both delighted reactions and unapproving stares.
This is what the American Superhero Project looks like in the halls of congressional buildings behind the scenes.
